The Sarajevo Writers’ (SWW) Workshop
At the invitation of Dr. Julie Bates of the ELIT department, the Sarajevo Writers’ Workshop coordinated a workshop for students in the MA in Creative Writing on 27th of March 2015. The MA in Creative Writing group received invaluable help from the attentive reading, thorough feedback and practical suggestions offered by the members of SWW, and the students in the group are delighted and grateful to have had this experience. It is an event we hope to repeat in future years of the Creative Writing class here at IUS. The Sarajevo Writers’ Workshop (SWW) are a group of poets and prose writers working in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and English, who have been engaged in creative writing in Sarajevo since 2012.
Their work has featured in the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program, where they collaborated with writers and photographers in Caracas, Venezuela. The Sarajevo Writers’ Workshop (SWW) has had their work published in the New York-based H.O.W. Journal. They have also given readings at Galerija Boris Smoje, and, in 2013, performed their work, along with a bluegrass/folk band, at the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR), a performance that was reviewed by The Sarajevo Times.
