Outstanding Success of FBA Student Tarik Okerić at the World Championship in Poreč
At the World Championship held from October 7 to 11 in Poreč, Croatia, with the participation of 57 countries, 1,500 competitors, and nearly 2,500 entries, Tarik Okerić, a student of the IUS Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA), achieved an exceptional result representing Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Tarik competed in the senior category up to -69 kg, widely regarded as the most competitive division in the world, which this year gathered 50 top fighters. In the early rounds, he secured victories against competitors from Spain and Nepal. In the decisive match for the medal, Tarik narrowly lost to the reigning European champion with a score of 2:1, missing the semifinals by only one point.
“Everything happens for a reason. Even though I was just one step away from a medal, I am proud of what I achieved. Every match is a lesson and a motivation for the next challenge, the Balkan Cup,” said Tarik.
What makes this success even more remarkable is that Tarik participated in the World Championship both as a competitor and as a coach. After four months of independent preparation, he led his team to outstanding results. His athlete Lamija Sabović won a bronze medal and secured third place in the world, while other team members also delivered excellent performances, narrowly missing out on the podium.
“I would like to sincerely thank my family, friends, club, and Faculty for their immense support. The Faculty has shown great understanding and flexibility, which has allowed me to successfully balance my education and sports career. This means a lot to me and gives me extra motivation to keep moving forward,” Tarik emphasized.
Tarik’s dedication, resilience, and achievements are a source of pride for the entire IUS community and especially the Faculty of Business and Administration, reflecting the spirit of excellence and perseverance that the university strives to inspire in its students.
